Makati City, February 17, 2020 – Novartis Healthcare Philippines extended financial assistance to the Provincial Governments of Batangas and Cavite for the benefit of 2,500 families affected by the recent eruption of Taal Volcano.

“Our humble donation aims to provide the affected families staying in evacuation centers with relief items such as bottled water, N95 masks, sleeping mats, blankets, goggles, and hygiene kits,” said Mr. Jugo Tsumura, Country President & Managing Director, Novartis Healthcare Philippines. “In line with our mission to improve and extend people’s lives, Novartis strives to be a responsible citizen by making a positive contribution to society. An integral part of our corporate responsibility work is to provide relief and rehabilitation assistance to communities impacted by natural calamities.”

Novartis Healthcare Philippines made the donation through the PHAPCares Foundation, the corporate social responsibility arm of the Pharmaceutical and Healthcare Association of the Philippines (PHAP). PHAP represents the research-based pharmaceutical industry in the country. Novartis is a PHAP member while Mr. Tsumura concurrently serves as Treasurer of the PHAPCares Foundation.

“Natural calamities have public health consequences. Lives and health could be compromised as a result of the calamity itself and the displacement of people and communities. We are grateful to Novartis Healthcare and our partners for helping us fulfill our mission of looking after the health and well-being of the people affected by calamities. This partnership shows solidarity, unity and corporate social responsibility in times when help is most needed by our countrymen affected by the Taal Volcano eruption,” said PHAPCares Foundation Executive Director Dr. Rosarita Quijano-Siasoco.

Last month, the PHAPCares Foundation in partnership with the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) transported more than 16,500 face masks and medicines for respiratory illnesses and drinking water to evacuation centers in Santo Tomas and Padre Garcia in Batangas.
